Farmhouse Ladder Shelf (Slate)

This is the 3rd Ladder Shelf Prototype with a Farmhouse style in a Slate finish. This prototype is identical to the 2nd prototype except the top support brackets have been moved to the inside of the legs to elongate the appearance of the legs. This is also a very easy aesthetic optional that can personalize this shelf. This change needs to be accommodated by adjusting the counter sinks to the outside of the legs instead of inside like on prototype #2. All other dimensions are the same.

Materials

The prototype legs and frame are made of constructions grade (cull) lumber measuring 2"x12"16'. I cut them into 8' sections for transport. The shelves are 1"x12"x8' pine boards.

Construction

The legs and frame are fastened with pocket holes and screws. The ladder top is secured to the legs with dowels, wood glue, and carriage bolts. The shelves are held together with dowels and wood glue. This unit can be disassembled but only meant to be disassembled in rare occasions. This prototype was not designed with disassembly and reassembly in mind. The carriage bolts added to secure the top were also designed to add a small amount of adjustment for uneven surfaces. The previous prototype had the legs hard fastened to the top with screws and did not allow for uneven floors. Having the top hard fastened may also cause additional tension on the top fasteners the more uneven the surface.
